SO here's my dilemma for all you fab moms out there! (remember, it's been 8 years since I've done this and EVERYTHING has changed in the baby department! )

The travel system with the car seat that locks into the stroller OR be just a plain stroller and car seat if you need(pure genius if you ask me! No more waking baby to lift him into the stroller! love it!)
They are roughly $130 - $260 depending on how fancy schmancy you want them. I don't care for bells & whistles I'm simple girl. SOOOooooo I'm debating on whether or not to get a brand new one or try to find one on KSL.com or craigslist or something.
Here's how my dilemma goes: I've seen some of these brand new in the box on KSL.com, but they are 5 years old, which I believe is older than car seat regulations allow for (? is that true?). Also, We have no credit cards, so don't get the idea that I can charge the $300 one! Since we have no credit cards, we are very scrupulous with our spendatures. We pay cash for everything - therefore - we want the best bargain. Then again, I would like something brand new that someone else's baby hasn't barfed in or exploded in their pants (remember the poop all the way up the back routine? oh yesI do!) and the parents are trying to hide the stains and I probably wouldn't notice until it was too late. Plus, wheels on strollers tend to wear out fast and I plan on walking EVERYDAY until I can start running again. So newer would be better. BUT, my boys are BIG boys! Brady was 23 pounds at 6 months and was in a rear facing car seat at 5 months old (true story) so I BARELY used his infant seat for 5 months because we didn't have a car, soI didn't go anywhere with it. Colby was a whopping 9 lbs when he was born and he lasted maybe 4 -5 months in the carrier before I couldn't lift him anymore either. So yes, I'm worried I'll be delivering a toddler who will need a rear facing seat :). Ok, not really, but is it a waste to put money into this when past experience gives me 4 - 5 months of use?
What do you guys think? Would it be worth the money spent for one brand new? Or would it be worth my while to try and find one barely used? Or just go for the separate seat & stroller since I may not use the seat for long anyways? I could get a super fancy stroller since I'd use that for a lot longer. . . hmmm. . . see why I need all you mom experts here :).
I know you guys will come through for me here, so thanks in advance! :) :) :)

From personal experience these are a waste of time, money, etc. I had one for Ashley. It was so bulky that even when folded I had to have everything out of my trunk and/or closet to fit it in.As far as keeping sleeping baby sleeping,by the time you have the car seat tipped far enough to click it into the stroller/car base and the loud click telling you it is secure, said baby is either a very heavy sleeper or is awake anyway.
Personally, I prefer the Wal-mart special, folding stroller with underneath basket($20-new).Not the $10-looks like it's made for a doll umberella stroller. I'll give you mine (Sydnie's too big for it I think) and you can try it out and decide. It's good up to age three.
Also most of the travel sytems can now be purchased seperately so you can always purchase the car seat first, then if you feel the added stroller is really a necessity, get it later.
I'm pretty sure the limit is 6 years on the plastic that these seats are made of.
I would not buy the seat used, but would buy a used stroller.
Check on Craig's List, too.
There is an expiration date molded into the plastic on the back/bottom of all carseats, but even if that is okay, it's immpossible to tell if a used seat has been involved in an accident. Even a minor one affects the structural integrity of the seat. Go new.
I really like the combo systems. I had a great one with Joren that I really liked. I sold it at a garage sale because I wanted a sit and stand with Terek. Anyway, it is great because it's light weight, folds small, but still has a basket under it and you can still put any graco car seat in it. I sent an email about you to it. I always think that I want new for every kid, but when it comes down to it, it seems that they get dirty kind of fast any way. You can have my car seat when I'm done. It's a little over 3 years old, but I don't want or need it any more after this one. And it's blue and black.
okay here is my opinion. First, I love used, but not for a carseat. There is just no reason to risk it. I have small babies, so I guess the baby carrier is great for me, I have to have one. Syd was in it till she was like 13 mos hahahahaha. Anyway, its just easier to put them down, when you can not just set them on the ground anywhere without it!
Check Costco, that is where I bought all but one car seat. Also, if you just buy the seat there, that is fine I am sure. I a, ALL about a used stroller, and I do, in fact own one I bought from KSL.com. I love Costco too, cause the fisrt time around, we bought a travel system (what you want) and the car seat broke somehow-- not cause of anything we did, I dont think, so I took it back. The one I have now, I LOVE. It is SOOOOOOOOO much easier to get in and out of the car. If you want, I can tell you the brand. Costco may or may not have a car seat, but you have a few months to look around for the best deal. Even NIB is okay, but I would not go older than recent cause I heard from someone about car insurance issues or something if its expired(NICE term for a CRASEAT!) or something like that. If this is your last kid, then you can turn around and gift the seat to someone (isnt someone else prego in your fam?) or sell it to someone, cause I am sure there are people out there who aren't as freaky about it (even though, lol, they should be!). BLAH BLAH BLA> I am sure we will tak about this tomorrow. and funny enough, it did not dawn on me that I was the SIL about to pop till just now. Cause I feel like if you pushed my stomach, half my abdomen would empty. HAHA. I guess that would be pop, wouldn't it??? Oh yeah, I would only use a used car seat if you know who had it, know they have not been in accident, etc. Then I think its okay. :) Just since you asked :)
I just had a thought. You have not had a kid in YEARS :) so you should wait and see what people give you at a baby shower. Maybe everyone can pool in for a seat/stroller at one of your showers, since I think you should be thrown at LEAST two (family, ward/young women). I will throw you the family shower at my house :) I love a good schindig. Assuming things go well between now and then (for me).
Someone needs to throw you a shower and I want to be there. Waaaaah.
We always do group gifts in my ward and people end up with a good chunk of moo-lah to buy something they want!
Do not get a used car seat! You need new.
