I had the sweetest experience today that I just had to share. Not only is it faith building, but it just makes your heart so tender for the missionaries and the different sacrifices they made for their missions.
have to start by telling you the background here:
have to start by telling you the background here:
For a combined activity in September, we had a mini-MTC activity showing the youth the different types of things they would be expected to do in the MTC. One of our stations, we actually wrote letters to 2 missionaries serving from our ward. One of my Mermaids (yes, I call the Miamaids "MERMAIDS") her brother is one of the missionaries. She told me that her brother's companion didn't have a supportive family back home and that he & his sister were the only members in his family.
So we had each of the youth there that night write an extra letter to the companion to show him, HECK YES WE LOVE THE MISSIONARIES!!!

Last week, I actually got a letter and pictures from the missionary from our ward. It was really fun to get a response back and I can't wait to show the YW & YM.
But that's not the best part!
Today I got an email from the companion of our ward missionary. He wrote it directly to me to thank me for for the many letters written to him and for my testimony of the gospel. He then told me that he is a convert to the church, his grandma was a member and he was able to baptize his sister before he left on his mission. But he doesn't get much support from home. I was so touched. I thought that he didn't even have to write me and tell me, but it meant so much to me, that something we thought was so simple as writing a letter to missionaries would mean so much to him.
It makes me wonder if we fully realize the sacrifices these missionaries are making to serve our Father in Heaven. If we appreciate their work and efforts they are making every day to spread the gospel. My heart was just so full today! I'm so thankful to be so abundantly blessed to live in the salt lake valley, with the prophet and 4 temples in my backyard. I shouldn't take these things for granted. THere are so many that have so much less than I do. I just am so thankful for a loving Heavenly Father who loves us all so much and blesses each of us!
So my point is, don't put off writing to the missionaries! They need our love and support out there! And in the meantime, we can start training the future missionaries that we will be writing daily in 10 years from now :). . . at least I will be :). . .so Ill start loading up on stationary and stamps :). Not only that, I'll have 2 missionaries out at the same time for 6 months! wow! Now that is crazy to think about! Let's just get them through grade school, then I can panick :).
